Family members are important to all of us. For residents at Algonquin they are very important. Family members are their link to the outside world and there are many ways in which the family can help out.

The staff has only so much time to look after the residents. They cannot do everything. This is where family members can be useful. For example, they can take their clothes home to wash them, help clean their table tops and drawers at the nursing home, clean their fingernails, eye glasses or help with their exercises. Many of the ways they can help are simple little things which all take time. They can also take them for an outing – a walk around the block, a visit home for the day, a trip to church or a car ride.

All this helps the staff at Algonquin. The nursing home cannot satisfy the needs of all the residents all the time. Every bit of assistance the family gives benefits the resident. The nursing home needs the involvement and co-operation of the family to help make Algonquin “A Place Called Home”.
